FluencyFor Grade 2 -They should be working on phrasing. How their reading sounds out loud. It should sound like they are speaking. Very fluent, with expression. They should not just be racing, but adding feeling and inflection. |
Reading Fluency
Initially, your child's reading will sound choppy. With practice, it will start to sound more like they speak. Help them to improve by making them sound out words that are decodable-sound by sound-then blending back together. As they learn more sounds, you will really start to see them soar!!!
For Grade 2 Fluency target is 90-120 words per minute The reading passage with 3 timed 1 minute reads and the comprehension questions should help with this goal! Please be sure to complete this each week! :) Please make sure they answer the comprehension questions in complete sentences. This is a great opportunity to work on their writing skills and to edit with an adult. Please also discuss with them the importance of being accurate! |
